This is a type of blindness when a patient is unable to get the larger message from an image and pays too much attention to its detail. Patient is able to see the image, and can list or indicate to every object but may not be able to comprehend the presented message.Patient may also have difficulty with hand-eye coordination, and precisely reaching an object.

Where is the problem in Balint Syndrome?

It is caused by injury to the parietal and occipital parts of both sides of brain.

 

What may be the cause of Balint syndrome?

Usual causes include a stroke, or low blood pressure COMA resulting in brain injury. A degenerative process, as in dementia, can also cause it. Other causes include cancer, PRES (posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome), and Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease.

 

How is Balint Syndrome diagnosed?

It is diagnosed by its clinical features; while its cause is determined by brain imaging, preferably by an MRI of brain.

 

How is Balint Syndrome treated?

There is no specific treatment, other than treatment of the cause. In some conditions it is reversible.
