In this condition patients have vivid dreamlike hallucinations during waking hours caused by damage to a certain area of brain. Typically it starts suddenly. Hallucinatory images are bizarre, like a dreamlike state.

Where is the problem in Lhermitte Peduncular Hallucinosis?

In this condition the lesion or the location of injury is in the base of brain in areas called brainstem or thalamus. According to one theory, damage to these areas of brain let dream intrusions during wakefulness.

What is the usual cause of Lhermitte Peduncular Hallucinosis?

Usual cause of this syndrome is a small stroke affecting brainstem.

What is the treatment for Lhermitte Peduncular Hallucinosis?

No specific treatment is needed, other than treatment of the cause, education, and reassurance. Patients usually recover, and mostly stop having hallucinations.
